The Rangers selected West Orange High (Winter Garden, Fla.) infielders in consecutive drafts, Kole Enright in the third round in 2016 and Seise in the first round in 2017. While Enright has struggled to get going offensively, Seise has exhibited some of the highest upside in the system since signing for $2 million as the 29th overall pick. But he missed all of 2018 after hurting his throwing shoulder and having rotator-cuff surgery, then played just 21 games this year before injuring his left shoulder sliding into a base and requiring season-ending labrum surgery.

With Seise’s size, bat speed and developing strength, he has more power than the typical shortstop. To get the most out of his power potential and hit for average, he’ll have to improve his plate discipline and guard against his right-handed swing getting too long. He has the plus speed and aggressive mindset to steal bases.

Assuming his arm bounces back, Seise has all the tools to remain at shortstop. He’s quick, has soft hands and displayed plus arm strength in the past. He also has a good internal clock that helps him make plays, and his athleticism should give him the versatility to play almost anywhere on the diamond if needed.
